Best time of the year to hike certain trails are right now, when the ground is a bit frozen, most of the greenery are bowing down and som light beautiful snow have just fallen.. no pestering insects, no soggy grounds and no clinging bush… just a frozen nature going to sleep. (Another good example when to best hike a trail is Bruksleden in Västerås when I lived there, the summer hike was horrible, but early winter just awesome!)
I will let my puppy Jenta show you some remaining parts of the old and “endless” Lappmarksvägen trail – through some nice conifer and birch forest landscape. We have hiked parts of this trail right before the snow came too, then still very nice, green and beautifully mossy, but a frozen winter wonderland is hard to beat!
Running and jumping around.. so much to see and discover for a little girl
Walking right into a winter wonderland adventure
Jenta is waiting..just as eager as I am to discover what’s around the next corner… more forest perhaps?
I usually start at point 7 (Seltjärn) on the map below. Here you can park your car/bike and take a look at the maps (it is possible to enlarge the map pics below):
This weekend the sun finally showed up with a chilly wind, but I still wanted to check out fishing in Lillsjön, a small lake/tarn (362 masl) up in the woods in Myckelgensjö area.
Must say I am really impressed how well my tiny microcar handled the last 7 km of shitty, muddy and icy gravel road, (someone had actually put up a big handwritten sign saying the road was totally crap and driven at your own risk ..ha..ha) but the very last 2 km on stony forest road I found it best to park the car and have a very nice hike up to Lillsjön lake.
The simple cabin by the lake have a wood-burning stove and is open for everyone to use, and you can even rent it overnight for a nice price. I think that is a great offer when it is really cold and you want to warm your ass a bit during a hike or fishing trip. Near the cabin there are to good wind sheds (in Norwegian we call it gapahuk) with benches, fire-place and firewood if you insist staying outdoors.
My puppy (I call her Jenta as in Jenta mi (“my girl” in my dialect)) enjoyed running and racing freely around the place, she really loves that and have a bunch of energy to use. Hopefully she didn’t eat any exiting “natural candy” from the woods that will show up as vomit back home.
We did not have too much time left as I wanted to get back to the car before dark – so my 1-hour fishing luck was nothing to brag about this time, but now I have tried it out and know the place for next time, perhaps the tracks around the lake would lead to a better fishing spot? Would be so nice to grill fresh fish by the gapahuk someday…yummy…
Info! You can buy a mandatory 24h fishing licence (30 kr) online and find the latest fishing report for Lillsjön (and other lakes in the Myckelgensjö area) direct from this link: www.ifiske.se
My first photos ever of the northern lights.. at last. I didn’t have to chase it at all either, just shot them (slightly frantic) right from my lil’s farms courtyard 2 nights ago. Maybe not that spectacular shots alright, but there’s room for improvements indeed right? Lots of.
Thank’s to my puppy and our final evening walk that night I discovered that the start-studded sky was running a natural green light show. I managed to run in and find the camera, fumble some settings and shoot a bit before it was too late. No I really look forward to the very next chance to “refine” my skills a bit here, they can only (hopefully) get better.
My chicken house has never looked better under the moonshine and northern lights
